Services

If you have never worked with a designer before, it is useful to understand the stages of a project and how it progresses from first thoughts to completed garden. Some projects include all of the steps below, whilst others can work with a more abbreviated process, depending on budget and complexity.

Ruth Treacher fills out a Client questionnaire to capture the brief for their garden

Step 1: Site visit and briefing meeting

In our first meeting, we will talk through your ideas and wish list as well as practical considerations and how much you wish to invest. Following the meeting, a draft brief and fee proposal will be issued for your approval.

Step 2: Site survey & concept design

A measured survey will be taken of the garden, either by me or a surveyor if the site is very large or complex. Hand or computer drawn plan options, 3d sketch views and an image board with examples of planting style, architectural features and materials will be presented. Your feedback will be discussed and recorded to inform the next stage.

Step 3: Detailed design

A full drawing pack typically including computer drawn plans and sections, detail drawings, a schedule of materials and a planting plan and specification will be produced. The pack can be issued for tender to obtain a price for construction. I can put you in contact with trusted contractors, or help you assess your own options.

Step 4: Project monitoring

Once the contractor is appointed and the build is underway, regular visits to check the design is being properly implemented can be arranged. I can be on hand to answer questions and help deal with any issues that arise, keeping you up to date at all times.

Step 5: Maintenance & aftercare

Once the garden is complete, a maintenance plan explaining how to look after it will be provided. If required, I can make periodic visits to check the planting has established and discuss any updates or alterations.

Soft landscape design

If your garden doesn't require a full redesign, replacing or supplementing the planting can achieve great results. After an initial meeting to discuss the brief and review the existing garden, a planting plan can be proposed with full specification and image boards explaining the 'look and feel' of the design.  For small and medium sized gardens, I can supply and install the plants with my team of Royal Horticultural Society accredited gardeners.
