Grove Lane

A naturalistic pond complete with bubbling cascade becomes the centre-piece of a garden for wildlife

"Ruth transformed our nice but scruffy back garden into a place of tranquility and beauty. She really listened to what we wanted and produced a super design and planting. The contractor she recommended worked with great care and precision, especially on the now lovely pond. Ruth then came in with her team and planted - the result is magical. "

After

In the words of the client, this 'nice but scruffy' garden in Camberwell needed some love and attention to fulfill its potential. The design concept sought to link together existing paving and terraces, re-purpose materials already on site and form a dog-proof 'runway' through the garden.  A pathway of overlapping materials was created to lead you around the garden, ending in an archway leading to a raised terrace.  The existing, formal pond, was transformed by landscaping with natural stone and pebbles and removing conifers to let the sunlight in.

The planting responded carefully to the different areas of the garden, with drought tolerant species in full sun and 'woodland edge' varieties in the shade of existing trees and walls.
