About me

Thirty years of design experience and a love of the natural world

A well designed garden is a magical thing that can lead to years of pleasure and experimentation. I am a strong believer in the benefits of gardening: both to support our environment and boost our own well-being.  We have the power to do good with our gardens and I love to work with clients to create a garden that will make them feel great, whilst supporting nature.

After a career in interior design working on projects ranging from the the refurbishment of the Royal Festival Hall, the 2012 Olympic Games and the London College of Fashion, I decided to follow my passion for gardens and pursue projects where I can be 'hands on' creatively and help my clients see rapid transformations to their space.

After gaining qualifications in garden and specialist planting design at Capel Manor College, one of London's most respected institutes, I added a broad knowledge of plant communities to my skills for spatial design and project delivery.

I bring a strong understanding of the design process and practicalities of construction and clearly communicate through excellent presentation and drawing skills.  I have a genuine desire to collaborate with clients to make sure the garden is what they want, need and can maintain.  I am conscious that for most people, a garden renovation is a serious investment, requiring sensible decisions and careful management.

My architectural experience means I understand the important relationship between gardens and buildings. If you are planning a house refurbishment, I can work with you and your architect to seamlessly integrate the garden concept into your wider project.

I enjoy a relaxed approach that allows nature to help shape the space, but is underpinned by strong contemporary design. For me, designing sustainably means building soil health, adopting a 'right plant, right place' approach, anticipating the effects of climate change and making responsible choices about hard landscaping and the use of water.

"Ruth was a regular visitor throughout the build, cheerfully problem-solving while protecting the integrity of the design and overseeing the smallest of details. With the hard work and thought she put into the scheme, we are confident it will grow into something quite special. I would not hesitate to recommend her. "
